Quadragen
energyexcel has designed and patented Quadragen - an innovative combined heat, power and cooling (CHPC) system. The design incorporates a novel refrigeration circuit, enabling the cooling generated by a standard absorption chiller to be used in low temperature (-30ºC) applications such as freezers and cold stores.
In supermarkets, for example, heat utilisation from conventional CHP systems is often poor as space heating demands are confined to periods of cold weather. Consequently, schemes are unlikely to be financially viable. Even where CHPC is used, opportunities are severely limited as cooling is not generally required for air-conditioning on the sales floor. Quadragen can however utilise the recovered heat for cooling freezers and chillers, opening up the potential for much wider use of CHP.

Quadragen uses proven technologies in a novel way that results in energy savings and a significant step-change in CO2 emissions. It can be installed as an integral part of new refrigeration systems or easily retrofitted. As the configuration options allow it to be applied to all the most widely used refrigeration systems – including CO2 - the technology has huge potential across many sectors.
